Cheap car insurance for your Vauxhall

Cheap car insurance for Vauxhalls

Vauxhall is one of the best known names on Britain's roads, and cars such as the Corsa, Vectra, and Astra are continually challenging Ford to be top of the new car sales charts.

Vauxhall Iron Works was a company formed in 1897 by Alexander Wilson, who had a background of marine engineering. It was likely for this reason that their first car, built in 1903, was steered using a tiller!

In 1907, the name Vauxhall Motors Ltd was adopted following of the company’s movement from marine engineering to automobile engineering.

General Motors purchased Vauxhall Motors Ltd after the First World War for $2.5 million, providing an American design influence on Vauxhall cars.

After the Second World War, Vauxhall expanded their car production dramatically, building cars with mass market appeal. In the 70s, Vauxhall cars started to become produced in partnership with Opel, another brand under the control of General Motors. Nowadays, Vauxhalls and Opels are almost identical cars, just with different names.

2005 was an excellent year for Vauxhall, with 2.5 million cars sold over the year. Another achievement was the number of Vauxhall Astra sales, which brought it to second place in the 2005 new car sales.
