Getting your vehicle repaired

Car insurance claim - getting your car repaired following a car accident
If your car has been damaged in an accident, regardless of who was responsible or at fault and regardless of the level of insurance cover you have, under the terms of your policy you must report your car accident to your insurance company as soon as you can following the accident.

If the accident was your fault and you have comprehensive insurance with duck2water, your policy does cover you for making claims for damage to your car. If you have chosen Third Party Fire and Theft (TPFT) your policy will not cover you for damage to your car. It is vital that you report any accident to us in case another person makes a car insurance claim against your policy for any damage that you may have caused to their vehicle or property.

Getting your car repaired following a non-fault car accident
If your car has been damaged in a car accident that was not your fault, your duck2water legal expenses insurance cover will help you recover the losses you incurred in the car accident from the insurance company of the person responsible for causing the car accident.

In order for us to get your vehicle repairs underway, we will also need the name, address, registration number and insurance company of the person who you believe was responsible for causing the car accident. We will then liaise with the insurance company of the person who was responsible for the car accident and once we have received the engineer’s report we will give you the go ahead for you to book your vehicle to be repaired at an insurance company approved body shop. They will assess the damage to your vehicle and produce a written report outlining the extent of the car damage and the repairs needed.

Even if you don’t have the full details of the person who caused the car accident, we may still be able to help. We may be able to trace the other person, through various sources including the police (if they attended the scene of the car accident) and the DVLA database. Should the other person be untraceable or uninsured, we may still be able to pursue a claim for personal injury and damage to your vehicle through and organisation called the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB), an organisation funded by the insurance industry to assist people who have been involved in road traffic accidents with untraced or uninsured drivers.

If you have been involved in a car accident, whether it was your fault or someone else’s fault, call our claims team on 0800 954 97 57 where an accident manager will record details of the incident and will start work on your car insurance claim immediately.
