If you are involved in a car accident you must contact us as soon as you can to ensure you get your full entitlement to cover under the terms of your motor insurance policy.

Even if you do not intend to make a motor insurance claim, you must report the accident to us, in case another person makes a car insurance claim against your motor insurance policy, for damage or injuries that you may have caused.

Car insurance claim - fault accidents
If you have been involved in a car accident that you believe to be your fault, call us on 0800 954 97 57 and a claims handler will take down the details of the accident. We will then be able to advise you whether your motor insurance policy covers you for your claim.

If you have valid car insurance claim, you will be transferred to our insurance underwriters who will take down the full details of other vehicles involved and police and/or witness details, so they can get your claim underway immediately.

Car insurance claim - non-fault accident
If you have been involved in an accident that you do not believe was your fault, your legal expenses insurance policy will help you pursue a claim for your losses and damages from the person responsible. Call our non-fault claims team on 0800 954 97 57. You will need to provide us with the date, time and place of the car accident and a description of how the accident happened. We will also need the name, address, registration number and insurance company of the person who you believe was responsible for causing the car accident, together with details of any police who attended the accident, and names of witnesses. Do not worry if you don’t have all this information initially as we may not need it all in order to get your claim underway.

As part of your duck2water legal expenses insurance, there are some additional services to help you following a non fault accident. These costs can be reclaimed from the third party or their insurers*.

Free replacement car*
duck2water can provide you with a replacement car on a credit-hire basis, whilst yours is being repaired or if it is not roadworthy following an accident. The cost of the car will be met by the insurance company of the person responsible for causing the accident**.

The car provided will be an equivalent model to your own. So if you need a family car, or a prestige car for your job, that’s what we’ll provide you with. The hire car will be fully insured and we aim to get a replacement car to you the same day you contact us.

The delivery and collection of the replacement car is included in our service and we will arrange for it to be delivered to you at a convenient time and place. The replacement car costs will be billed directly to the insurance company of the person who caused the accident, and you will pay nothing. You will usually be able to keep the hire car until your vehicle is repaired and back on the road, or if it is a write-off, until you receive a cheque for the value of the vehicle.***

Getting your vehicle repaired
If your car has been damaged in a non-fault accident, we can organise a credit-repair for you. Even if you are comprehensively insured, we will arrange for an inspection to be carried out on your vehicle by an independent car insurance engineer and then get the repairs authorised through an approved repair garage.

The engineer will assess the damage to your car and produce a written report outlining the estimated cost of repairs. We will liaise with the insurance company of the person who was responsible for the car accident and the repair bill will be sent directly to them. There will be nothing for you to pay. It may also be possible to get your car repaired at your preferred repair garage.

Making a personal injury claim
If you or one of your passengers have suffered a personal injury in a car accident or motorcycle accident in the UK that was not your fault, we can help you make a personal injury compensation claim. Uninsured or hit and run driver
Even if you don’t have the full details of the person who caused the accident, we may still be able to help. We may be able to trace the other person, through various sources including the police (if they attended the scene of the accident) and the DVLA’s database of UK car drivers. Should the other person be untraceable or uninsured, we may still be able to pursue a claim for personal injury and damage to your vehicle through an organisation called the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB), an organisation funded by the insurance industry to assist people who have been involved in a car accident or motorcycle accident with untraced or uninsured drivers.
