Fisherman may make car insurance claim after accident while angling
A fisherman will be looking at a higher price for his motor insurance following an accident while angling, even if he is able to find a really cheap online car insurance deal.
Gary Reynard, 34, was enjoying a spot of angling by Scarborough Mere when he realised that there was a strange creaking sound. He tracked it down to a nearby willow tree that was wobbling dangerously close to his car.
He picked up his car keys and was deliberating whether to move it when the tree suddenly broke, smashing down onto his Volvo.
Mr Reynard telephoned a tree surgeon to remove the tree from the crumpled car and, not to be deterred from his fishing, went back to the river. The lucky angler said: "I fished for another couple of hours just to wind down."
It is believed that his motor insurance company will rule the car to be a write-off, although Mr Reynard was able to drive it back home.
Corrine Aldous of duck2water Car Insurance Services said: "If he has to make a motor insurance claim over this unfortunate accident, it is likely that he will have to pay an inflated premium next year.
"His best bet is to get an online car insurance quote, which may well save him some money."
