Armless man drives with no licence or car insurance
Police in New Zealand received the shock of their lives when they pulled over a car for speeding last week.
Because the driver, a 32-year-old unemployed man, had no arms and was using one foot to steer the car and another to operate the pedals.
Not surprisingly, he had never taken a driving test and had no motor insurance, but boasted to the officers that he had been driving for years without incident.
The man was arrested, although police were unable to handcuff him, and he was taken to the local station for further questioning. Upon closer inspection of the car, authorities discovered that it was of standard factory design and had not been in any way adapted for a disabled person.
The car was clocked travelling at 75mph, nearly 15mph above the speed limit, on a busy road near the town of Tauranga on New Zealand's North Island, and police were said to be amazed at the man's ability to drive despite being armless since birth.
A spokeswoman for Duck2Water Car Insurance Services, online providers of cheap car insurance, said, "I've never heard of anything like this.
"I wonder how he indicates?"
