Blue Fords most at risk of write-off
A survey investigating the types and colours of cars most likely to be written-off will have blue Ford drivers in Birmingham checking their UK online car insurance is up to date.
It has been discovered that 7% of cars that were written off between August 2005 and April 2006 were Ford Fiestas, but followed closely by Ford Escorts at 6% and Ford Mondeos at 5%. However, the high incidence of Ford cars in accidents is not altogether surprising, considering Ford produces more cars for the UK market than any other manufacturer.
The results of the survey, taken from records of UK online car insurance companies and high street stores, showed that blue cars were most likely to be written off after an accident, followed closely by red and green cars. Silver-painted cars accounted for a surprisingly low percentage of car accidents, just 11%.
Birmingham was flagged up as the most likely place in the UK to have a car written off by a car insurance company, whilst Glasgow, Sheffield, Guildford, and Newcastle also featured in the top 10.
Rebecca Pearson of Duck2water Car Insurance Services, a UK online car insurance provider, commented, "It is possible to see patterns in car accident write-offs such as this study reveals but it isn't significant enough that car buyers should be dissuaded from purchasing any particular type or colour of car. Driving habits, such as speeding, have a much greater bearing on the chance you will be in an accident."
