Study finds breakdowns plague motorists
When a driver buys motor insurance, it is often the case that they will be offered breakdown cover as an optional extra.
However, many motorists want a cheap car insurance deal so refuse to pay the extra few pounds for breakdown cover. New findings show that more than one in five drivers do not have any breakdown cover at all.
The study, undertaken by Prudential Car Insurance, discovered that three quarters of motorists have broken down at some point, and 60% had to spend more than an hour waiting for breakdown assistance.
A spokesman for Duck2water Car Insurance Services commented, "It is unwise to drive around with no protection from breaking down. Just pick the breakdown cover option when getting your cheap car insurance and then you don't have to worry about it for a whole year."
The research also found some drivers were particularly unlucky, with a quarter having broken down between three and five times, and four percent having broken down more than ten times.
