Car insurance firm refuse payout after car destroyed

A man has revealed how he has been forced to splash out on a new car after his was stolen by joyriders who then torched it, leaving it a burnt-out wreck on a piece of grass near his home.

Justin Bartlett's car insurance provider has refused to pay out for the vehicle and now he faces the prospect of dipping into his bank balance to buy a replacement.

In early May the car was stolen from outside Mr Bartlett's house on the Chantry estate in Ipswich. For nearly a week he was left bewildered as police searches proved fruitless, but six days after the theft, in the early hours of Sunday 14th May, he received a phone call from the fire service.

The firefighter revealed that Mr Bartlett's car had been discovered on a green less than half a mile from his house, but it had been so badly damaged that nothing remained but a fire-damaged shell.

An angry Mr Bartlett told reporters, "It was awful to know someone had been driving it around the estate and rubbing our noses in it.

"Then when we called the car insurance company they said the policy was void because although the car was locked, my partner left her handbag in it with her car keys in it. We now have to pay to remove the car from the green because the motor insurance company will not do anything."

A spokesperson from Duck2Water Car Insurance Services, the cheap car insurance experts, said, "It's a real shame that this gentleman's car was stolen and destroyed in this way, but this case just goes to show the importance of not leaving belongings on show in your vehicle."
