Cheap UK online car insurance help from councils
Pilot council schemes are helping to get young drivers an excellent UK online car insurance deal.
Suffolk County Council and Cardiff Council are two of the county councils that are taking part in a trial scheme that aims to improve the motoring abilities of young drivers. They are putting £75 towards the cost of doing a Driving Standards Agency Pass Plus course, which would normally set a new driver back £150.
It is hoped that the subsidy will attract the attention of 17-19 year olds in the area who want to learn valuable new driving skills, such as motorway driving and night driving. Drivers taking part in the course will have to take part in a three hour theory session and then spend eight hours driving with an instructor.
It is hoped that the knowledge learnt in the scheme will reduce the high number of road accidents that involve young drivers and will also help them to save money on their motor insurance. This is because insurers recognise drivers who take part in the Pass Plus scheme as having a reduced risk of being involved in a crash.
Suffolk County Council has said they have set aside £100,000 for the scheme and hope to pilot it for six months, whilst Cardiff Council is planning to run it from July 2006 to March 2007.
Rebecca Pearson of Duck2water Car Insurance Services, the online car insurance UK specialists, said: "Helping young drivers to become safer on the roads, as well as saving them money, is an excellent idea. Statistics show that two young drivers die every day on our roads and we are in support of any measure that helps to reduce this figure."
