Cheap car insurance looking doubtful for tattooed attacker

An artist with a tattooed face and a Mohican haircut could struggle to find a cheap car insurance deal in the future after a court appearance in Lincolnshire.

Andrew Mackie, from North Somercotes, was stopped by police on April 22nd after driving erratically in a van. Refusing to take a breath test to discover if he was over the alcohol limit, the 38-year-old went berserk and started attacking a constable.

He headbutted PC Dave Hackett and was only brought under control when he was sprayed with CS Gas. Cuffed and bundled into back of a police car, he was arrested for failing to provide a breath sample and assaulting an offer.

A search of the artist later revealed a potentially dangerous lock knife in his pocket, but the prosecution stressed that it had not been used during the incident.

Defending, Andrew Jay told Louth Magistrates' Court that Mackie did not headbutt the officer intentionally, saying, "He was throwing himself around and behaving in a violent and disorderly manner."

He also described his client as 'a curious character' with a 'heart of gold'.

Mackie pleaded guilty to six charges, including possession of a bladed instrument, assaulting a police constable, failing to provide a specimen for analysis, driving without an MOT or motor insurance, and driving a vehicle otherwise in accordance with a licence.

Magistrates adjourned the case for several weeks to compile pre-sentencing reports.

A spokeswoman for Duck2Water Car Insurance Services, the cheap car insurance experts, commented, "Whatever sentence the bench decide to give Mr Mackie, it's likely that his right to a cheap car insurance premium will be affected for a few years to come."
