Cheap car insurance threatened by gadget theft
The theft of satellite navigation systems is reaching such epidemic proportions in Britain that more are being stolen every day than manufacturers can produce, experts have warned.
One company is now making a stand against the problem and Blackspot, the maker of the popular speed camera locator, Road Angel, has launched a new motor insurance policy to cover gadgets left in cars.
For just £3.98, Blackspot will replace the device with a like for like product should your car be broken into and the sat nav equipment is stolen. The policy also covers against damage and breakage, component and screen failure and problems with cables and ports.
A spokesman from Blackspot said, "People find that, in most cases, navigation and driver safety systems are not covered by either home or car insurance policies and those that are normally carry a high excess or can result in a loss of no claims bonus.
"Blackspot Insurance can bridge this gap by offering a policy to cover not only navigation but all Road Angel driver safety products."
Rebecca Pearson from Duck2Water Car Insurance Services, online providers of cheap car insurance, warned, "Leaving sat nav equipment, speed camera locators or any other expensive items in your car when it's unattended is asking thieves to take them.
"To ensure that you can keep your cheap car insurance, always make sure that any valuables are hidden away or removed from the vehicle completely."
