British drivers claim on cheap car insurance abroad
Recent research has shown that two thirds of British people lack confidence when driving on foreign roads.
The survey for Prudential Car Insurance found that 57 percent of Brits are planning to take their cars abroad this year. With holiday makers claiming on their motor insurance, experts have said that nerves behind the wheel could increase a driver's chance of having a car accident.
The survey also showed that three in five drivers were uncertain of the level of car insurance they had overseas. Prudential have warned that many insurance providers do not offer fire and theft cover, with only a third protecting their customers under fully comprehensive cover arrangements when outside the country.
The top five reasons why Brits get nervous behind the wheel are:
- Confusing road signs
- Driving on the wrong side of the road
- Unfamiliar roads
- Not sure of the driving laws
- Negotiating roundabouts from the right-hand side of the road
Prudential's media relations manager, Phil Southgate commented, "With almost two thirds of drivers nervous about driving abroad, it is vital they double check what protection their policy will offer once they cross the Channel. Should they be involved in an accident some drivers may otherwise find themselves at a loss with only third party insurance despite having fire and theft or even fully comprehensive cover in the UK."
Corrine Aldous from Duck2Water Car Insurance Services, the cheap car insurance experts, commented, "The best advice is to check with you insurer before traveling abroad."
