Cheap car insurance companies support child seat move
The cheap car insurance company Norwich Union has given is backing to new rules concerning child car seats.
The new regulations state that under threes must use an appropriate seat for their age and those aged between three and twelve must have a suitable child restraint. It will also be made illegal to have a rear-facing baby seat in a seat with airbag protection.
Although many parents have allowed their children to use adult seatbelts in the past, they are really designed to be most effective for those who are over 150 cm. The new types of child and baby restraint are considered to provide considerably more protection in the event of a car accident.
Government research predicts up to 2000 injuries or deaths will be prevented every year by this move.
Andy Boyd of Norwich Union commented, "As a leading provider of motor insurance we think the government is taking the right approach on this issue.
"Most measures taken in this area - such as the introduction of compulsory seatbelt wearing - make for safer roads and safer driving.
"However, too many children are still killed or injured on our roads every year and, by using a correctly fitted child seat that is suitable for their weight and size, many of these deaths and injuries could be prevented."
Corrine Aldous of the cheap car insurance firm duck2water agrees, saying, "We understand that while many parents ensure their children have appropriate protection, five per cent of youngsters under four aren't provided with any kind of special child seat or restraint.
"Hopefully this move will highlight the importance of proper child protection to those parents in particular, as well as all the other parents out there."
