Disqualified driver will not receive cheap motor insurance quote
Britain's most convicted motorist has been jailed for five months for driving while banned for a record 48th time.
Jamie Manderson, 33, of Swindon was spied driving a blue BMW in June after recently spending time in prison for the same offence. He was spotted by police while parked in a stationary vehicle and was instantly recognised as a disqualified driver.
The former bouncer has been banned every year since the age of 15 and, charged with his latest offence, admitted to driving the BMW without car insurance at the magistrates' court in Swindon.
Defending, Rob Ross, said that Manderson has an addiction with cars and told the court, "Many people say, 'Well, why does he not just stop driving?'. It's because he has an obsession with cars."
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents believes the sentence is a short term solution to a long-term problem. A spokesman said "He needs some serious rehabilitation to change his ways so he is no longer a danger to himself or other people."
The heroin addict has a total of nearly 200 previous convictions, mostly motoring offences, and will find it difficult in the future to apply for a cheap motor insurance quote.
Swindon police traffic officer PC Phil Staynings said: "We only hope he learns his lesson. If not, we will be targeting him."
Manderson was given a five-month sentence, but will only serve four due to time spent on remand in custody.
Corrine Aldous, a spokeswoman from Duck2Water Car Insurance Services, the expert cheap car insurance providers, commented, "Motorists with criminal convictions will find it difficult to get a cheap motor insurance quote and may face paying high insurance premiums because of the potential risk they may cause to other motorists."
