A&A Group remind drivers about driving other car insurance cover

The A&A Group warns that as of the start of 2006, not all motor insurance policies will include driving other car (DOC) cover.

Norwich Union, Asda and RAC are amongst the motor insurance companies to announce that they would be withdrawing the benefit of DOC cover to prevent drivers exploiting the system. Motorists have been getting insured on small cars which are cheap to insure, and using the DOC clause to regularly drive expensive cars owned by friends.

The move is also hoped to help in the crackdown on drivers who do not have car insurance, estimated to make up 1 in 20 motorists on the roads.

However, it is feared that many drivers will be caught unintentionally driving without motor insurance following this change.

The A&A Group Chairman, Tony Allen, commented: “The decision plunges the whole issue of who can drive what into something of a grey area and whilst uncertainty exists we would urge motorists to check their certificate or with their insurers before driving any other vehicle. After all, it is better to be safe than sorry.”
