Drug-drivers forfeit right to cheap car insurance

Car insurance firms are planning to face up tothe problem of drug-drivers after a recent survey has revealed just how much a problem the issue has become.

Radio station Kiss 100FM commissioned the research that showed nearly 40% of young motorists have driven whilst under the influence of drugs, and of those, 57% admitted that their driving had been impaired.

Shocked car insurance firms have now stated their intention to tackle the issue, and are promising to get tough with drug-drivers in the same way as they already do withdrink-drivers.

Tony Allen, Chief Executive of motor insurance suppliers A&A Group, said, "People might think they can get away with drug-driving more so than drink-driving but that's a myth.

"Drug-driving is a big problem and one which is being taken very seriously.

"The focus of any campaign has traditionally been on drink-driving, but drug-driving is also on theradar."

The survey was conducted among nearly 2,000 drivers and was part of an initiative by the Metropolitan Police to highlight the risks of driving whilst under the influence of drugs.

Rebecca Pearson, spokeswoman for Duck2Water Car Insurance Services, specialists in providing cheap carinsurance, said "Drug-driving is becoming a real issue nowadays, and anyone who is convicted of it will receive thesame treatment as a drink-driver and lose out on their chance of getting a cheap car insurance premium."
