Estate agents face cheap car insurance nightmare
Of all the professions in Britain today, it is estate agents that may struggle to find a cheap car insurance deal.
Because the latest research from Churchill Car Insurance has identified the cheeky chappies as the country's most inept drivers, having more accidents than anyone else. Community nurses, chefs, social workers and doctors are also up there at the top of the table, making huge numbers of insurance claims.
In contrast, farmers seem to be the most responsible road users, making by far the least amount of motor insurance claims, although the researchers suggest this could be to do with the lack of traffic on rural roads.
Churchill's head of car insurance, Darren McCauley, blames estate agents' terrible driving record on their busy lifestyle, saying, "Estate agents make lots of journeys in their cars during the day - dashing to see clients in urban areas and often parking wherever they can when they arrive."
He also explained that the breakdown of claims by different professions was very useful when calculating who is entitled to get a cheap car insurance deal, revealing, "People's occupations provide a useful lifestyle indicator, which we use to calculate our premiums.
"It helps us to ensure that customers with good claims records do not subsidise those who make frequent claims."
