Fuel award for Ford
Ford have designed a clever mechanism, the “Ford Easy Fuel Concept”, that will stop people from putting petrol into their diesel cars, and they hope to implement it in all their cars by 2008.
With many people buying diesel fuelled cars since the rising petrol prices, over 400 people a day are accidentally putting petrol into their new diesel cars in the UK. This mistake costs around £7000 on average to correct and is not covered by most UK car insurance policies.
The Ford Easy Fuel Concept is a device that checks the size of the nozzle being inserted into the tank is correct before the fuel can be dispensed.
Autocar editor, Rob Aherne said: “If simplicity is the essence of a great invention then Ford’s Easy Fuel Concept must be one of the best. It has the potential to prevent the inconvenience and expensive repair bills associated with filling a diesel car with petrol. We think it is ingeniously designed and a worth winner of the Autocar idea of the year.”
