No cheap motor insurance quotes for man convicted of numerous driving offences
A man who wished to go to jail after breaking the law in five different ways during a short journey is going to have trouble getting a motor insurance quote from now on.
Keith Ennis, a 26-year-old from Norwich, committed a series of crimes within a matter of minutes on September 2nd 2006.
He had been to a pub with his friend in the evening and after a number of alcoholic drinks, decided to drive himself home. He borrowed the keys to his friend's van and drove off without asking permission.
On the route home, he claimed that the van sustained a puncture whilst rounding a corner, causing him to lose control and crash into three stationary vehicles.
Mr Ennis' solicitor, Arthur Mould, said that: "My client describes his life as being in a complete mess at the moment. He's lost his girlfriend, has no employment and no home." He added that Mr Ennis had requested that he be sent to prison "the sooner the better."
As Chaiman Don Beckett was jailing the man for four months, he said, "We are going to grant your wish and send you to prison. We believe the charges you face are so serious that there is no other sentence we can give."
In addition, he was disqualified from driving for 28 months and was given penalty points for driving without motor insurance and without a licence.
Corrine Aldous of duck2water Car Insurance Services, which specialises in low cost car insurance rates, said: "It will be quite some time before Mr Ennis will be able to get any kind of motor insurance quote, let alone a cheap one."
