Go hybrid and get cheap car insurance
More Than, an online car insurance provider, is encouraging motorists to go hybrid by promising them a cheap car insurance deal on cars that use alternative power.
The number of drivers going hybrid is increasing year on year, with a 74% rise in hybrid car sales recorded between 2004 and 2005. More Than carried out a survey and found that 22 million motorists were considering a hybrid purchase but unless they were cheaper to run than other cars, they would probably not make the change.
Also in the study, researchers for the cheap car insurance company found that 58% of motorists would make the leap to eco-friendly driving if a hybrid motor insurance premium would be less than for a petrol equivalent.
As a result, More Than is offering a financial incentive in the form of cheap car insurance to those who choose hybrid. The motor insurance company have said that they will treat any hybrid car as being 2 car insurance groups below that into which it actually fits therefore guaranteeing a lower car insurance rate.
The Toyota Prius is one such vehicle that would be getting a cheap car insurance deal. Normally fitting into car insurance group 7, More Than will treat the Prius as a group 5 vehicle, which has a lower insurance rate.
Keith Maxwell of the cheap car insurance company commented, "Green motoring is going to be a massive growth area for the car industry as petrol prices continue to rise and concern over global warming grows. We want to financially reward drivers who are taking steps to do their bit for the environment."
