Honesty ruins father’s cheap car insurance premium

Three-year-old Hannah was always taught that honesty is the best policy, but her dad might be regretting educating his little girl so well after she shopped him to the cops.

Dieter Brauer, 33, was hiding in a cupboard at home when police came looking for him in connection with a series of motoring offences. His wife told the officers that her husband wasn't in, but little Hannah, who knew not to tell lies, gave the game away.

"But Papa is here," she proudly exclaimed, leading the two uniformed men to her dad's hiding place in the cupboard under the stairs.

The officers had come to investigate after Dieter's car was seen roaring away from a routine driving licence checkpoint at high speed in Vreden, northern Germany. Noting his number plate, they checked their systems and traced the car back to his address.

Now, in addition to facing criminal charges for speeding and not possessing a valid driving licence, Herr Brauer also risks losing his right to a cheap car insurance deal.

Defending his daughter's actions, he said, "I can't be angry with her, she was just doing what we've always told her and that's not to tell lies."

A spokesperson from Duck2Water Car Insurance Services, the online cheap car insurance experts, commented, "It looks like this gentleman is now going to have to pay more for his motor insurance premium."
