Killer drug addict with no car insurance sent to jail
A drug dealer who killed a man in a head-on car crash after consuming a cocktail of mind-altering substances has been sent to jail for five years.
Darren Taylor had no car insurance or driving licence when he took to the road in East Yorkshire in a dangerously out of condition Suzuki Vitara. Driving on the wrong side of the road, he smashed into an oncoming Peugeot carrying three Latvians.
Vladimirs Bekosovs died in the crash, his young niece, Inga Guds, suffered whiplash and her father, Janis, was left disabled and with glass in his lungs.
The court heard that 35-year-old Taylor's girlfriend told police, "He was totally off his head. He looked like he had not slept for days and had been bingeing out on drugs."
He had indeed been taking large quantities of drugs and had significant traces of heroin and cocaine in his system when he was tested after the road accident. It is thought Taylor is still a heavy drug user and he actually fell asleep and starting snoring loudly during the court proceedings.
As the killer was led out of Hull Crown Court to begin his prison sentence, a member of the gallery was heard to shout, "He would be dangerous if he had a brain."
A spokesperson from Duck2Water Car Insurance Services, the cheap car insurance experts, commented on the case, saying, "This is a tragic example of how taking drugs and getting behind the wheel of a car can have deadly consequences.
"This individual had no motor insurance and was banned from driving nine years ago, so he shouldn't have been on the road anyway."
