Banned driver could miss out on cheap car insurance

A man has been given his third driving ban after moving a car so its widescreen wouldn't get damaged by thugs.

Frederick Devos, 54, was being watched by a policeman as he tried to park his car between two other vehicles, knocking one of them as he made the manoeuvre. If the owner of the knocked vehicle had decided to make a claim for any possible damage, they could have risked losing their cheap car insurance.

Devos, of May Street, Cathys, was on his way home after drinking at the Cardiff Arms on July 30 when he saw that other car windows had been smashed by vandals and decided to move his car to a different location.

Cardiff Magistrates' Court heard how the officer saw Devos trying to park the Renault Laguna in Seymour Street in Splott and decided to give him a breathalyser test, which showed he was nearly twice over the limit.

After already being banned from driving in 1995 for three years as well as in 2002, Devos was given a 12-month community order and banned from driving for three years.

In the future, Devos may find it difficult to secure cheap car insurance with his track record.

Corrine Aldous, spokesperson for Duck2Water Car Insurance Services, the expert motor insurance provider said, "Anybody caught drink driving may find it difficult to get cheap car insurance in the future and could face paying higher prices on their premiums."
