Drink-driver may lose his cheap car insurance premium
A man whose tyre blew up as he drove away from the scene of an accident could risk losing his cheap car insurance in the future.
Lerwick Sheriff Court heard how Robin Pedley, 33, had been drinking shortly before his car was involved in a minor road accident on 13th May on the A970 near Scalloway.
Mr Pedley was twice over the legal limit when he decided to continue driving home with a damaged tyre from the accident. On arrival, his car tyre had completely detached itself from the wheel and left a deep groove in the road.
After admitting to the offences, Mr Pedley was ordered to pay £1,000 and was disqualified for 15 months.
A spokesperson for Duck2Water Car Insurance Services, the cheap car insurance provider, said, "Anybody who is caught driving while under the influence of alcohol could find it difficult getting cheap motor insurance in the future."
