No cheap car insurance for Londoners
Drivers living in London pay a massive 27% more than the national average for their car insurance, the latest research has revealed.
The lack of cheap car insurance in the capital is due to high crime rates and the excessive volume of traffic, which combine to push premiums up to an average of £563.
Another area way above the national average of £442 is the North West, where motorists can expect to fork out £541 for their motor insurance, according to the latest research from the Personal Finance branch of supermarket giant Tesco.
In contrast, cheap car insurance is easy to come by in East Anglia, which boasts the nation's lowest average price of £329 - 25% less than the UK average. Also offering the chance for a cheap deal are Scotland, Wales and the south west of England, all of which come in at under £370.
The supermarket's research also found that women can get cheaper car insurance than their male counterparts and pay, on average, 10% less.
The data is the result of a comparison between 33 leading motor insurance providers for the cost of a premium for 2,000 cars and drivers, but fails to consult some of the smaller, recently formed companies that ply their trade on the internet. Such companies are often able to offer great prices because of their lack of overheads.
Rebecca Pearson from Duck2Water Car Insurance Services, the cheap car insurance experts, said, "The motor insurance market is becoming increasingly competitive, so it really does pay to shop around before you decide which provider to use."
