No more cheap car insurance for drink driver
A Warwick man is to miss out on cheap car insurance in the future after leading police on a terrifying drink-fuelled high-speed chase through residential areas.
20-year-old Christian Gascoigne was already banned from driving and more than twice the drink drive limit when police spotted his car pulled up at the side of the road with no registration plates. They approached the suspicious looking car but it suddenly roared to life and Gascoigne sped off out of sight.
Activating their lights and sirens, the police gave chase and managed to catch up with the fugitive. Gascoigne refused to stop, however, and continued for several miles, driving erratically and forcing oncoming motorists to swerve off the road.
He jumped several red lights before finally stopping the vehicle and attempting to escape on foot. Officers pursued and finally managed to arrest him, smelling alcohol on his breath and so decided to breathalyse him. A breath test at the police station gave a reading of 69, compared to the legal limit of 35.
Appearing a Warwick Crown Court, Gascoigne pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving with no motor insurance. Judges sentenced him to 18 months behind bars.
A spokesperson for Duck2Water Car Insurance Services, the expert cheap car insurance UK providers, commented, "Drink driving and trying to escape the police is not the way to get cheap car insurance, as I'm sure Mr Gascoigne will find out soon enough."
