Innovative healing paint from Nissan
Nissan have developed a car paint that heals itself from scratches to the surface within 7 days. It is a clear paint, which can be used all over the car and lasts for about 3 years.
“Scratch Guard Coat”, as the paint is known, works by having a very elastic resin that stretches if it is scratched, before returning to its normal state between 1 day and 1 week later. The healing rate depends on the temperature the car is kept in and how deep the scratch is.
The paint also helps to prevent scratches as it is water-repellent. Nissan have found that cars coated in Scratch Guard Coat have only one fifth the chance of being scratched in a car wash compared to conventional paint.
As well as helping with automated car wash scratches, the Scratch Guard Coat is also able to help with general wear and tear from dirt and stones, which causes superficial damage to paintwork.
Having the Scratch Guard Coat on a car will mean that it is likely to be worth more when it is time for the car to be sold as the paint will be in better condition, as well as meaning you may not have to make a car insurance claim should your car be scratched.
