Police warn vehicle crime can affect cheap car insurance
Police all across Britain are warning drivers of the risks of not properly protecting cars and property left inside them.
They have been teaming up with motor insurance companies to educate motorists about using adequate security in order to keep thieves away. Alarms and immobilisers have been championed and, as well as preventing theft, can help to maintain cheap car insurance policies.
Assistant Chief Constable Steve Mortimore said, "As well as the cost of replacing your stolen property and damaged car windows or doors there is also the hidden cost of a possible increase in your insurance premium. This in turn puts car insurance up in general and affects everyone.
"This can all quite easily be prevented if we all do our bit. Police can patrol all the streets and tell drivers not to leave property on display but we need the public to actually do this, to reduce the chances of themselves becoming a victim and save themselves distress, inconvenience and a financial penalty."
In the last year there has been a fall nationwide in reported incidents of vehicle crime, but the past few months have seen the figure start to rise again.
A spokesperson for Duck2Water Car Insurance Services, specialists in cheap car insurance, said, "It really does pay to keep your valuables hidden and your car locked at all times, otherwise you could be running the risk of rising motor insurance costs."
