Protect your wheels and prevent a motor insurance claim

Car crime and resulting motor insurance claims are being tackled this week by garages and police in Cheshire.

Cut price locking-nuts for wheels are being sold by garages as part of an initiative to cut down on activity by car thieves in the area. Stolen wheels result in many motor insurance claims each year, which means that the victim of crime is much less likely to get a cheap car insurance deal.

Detective Sergeant Simon Newell said of the locking devices, "At the end of the day, they can help save the cost of a new tyre, a new wheel, the repair of any damage and any excess charges which insurance companies may charge if the spare wheel is stolen."

Thieves in the Ellesmere Port area of Cheshire seem to be particularly on the look out for specific cars such as Vauxhall Zafiras, Citroen Xsaras and Citroen Picassos.

A spokesman for Duck2water Car Insurances Services said, "Car crime is a constant problem in the UK so any initiative that will thwart the thieves is good for our car insurance customers. By taking the time to buy one of these cheap locking nuts you can reduce the chance of having to make a motor insurance claim or buy a new wheel."
