Retail giant halts car insurance sales
High street giant Argos has announced the suspension of its car insurance sales following Rubicon Corporation’s slide into administration.
The retailer had signed a deal in 2004 for Rubicon to provide competitive cheap car insurance to its customers, but the recent troubling times for the corporation have left it unable to fulfil its contractual duties.
As a result, Argos has temporarily suspended the sale of its car insurance services via the telephone and the internet, and a spokeswoman said, “We are currently confirming the future administration arrangements, and we aim to reinstate this service as soon as possible.”
Argos has promised that cover for existing customers with car insurance policies will not be affected by the changes, but those whose policies are nearing renewal may have to search elsewhere to secure a cheap car insurance deal.
None of Argos’ other services have been affected by Rubicon’s collapse, and their high street stores, of which there are now over 600 in the UK, are continuing to trade as normal.
