Car insurance news- Online car insurance provider backs Electronic Stability Control
Car insurance provider Thatcham is encouraging motorists shopping for a new car to buy one with Electronic Stability Control (ESC).
The ESC technology has been designed to prevent vehicles from skidding and losing control when making manoeuvres and may reduce the number of people claiming on their online car insurance premiums.
Spokesman for Thatcham, Mathew Avery, told the BBC, "We want the consumer to make sure that cars have got ESC fitted as standard and buy it instead of buying fancy alloy wheels and a stereo system."
Nigel Wonnacott of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders commented on cars with ESC and said, "They've saved the insurance industry millions of pounds and it's high time that was recognised in cheap car insurance for customers."
Many online car insurance providers will offer cheap motor insurance for vehicles with safety features but even though the ESC has helped reduce a number of accidents, it still does not affect the cost of a driver's insurance premium.
