British drivers reminded to buy snow chains for winter holidays
As thousands of people take off on winter holidays, many motorists end up driving their car without snow chains when travelling to ski resorts and other snowy destinations.
One such motorist was Dave Welsh from Nottingham, who said: “We left our car a few miles down the mountain late last night, it was freezing cold and was a two hour walk to our hotel; my wife has given me absolute hell. I forgot to buy snow chains.”
If the car is not properly prepared for winter driving, the chances of having a car accident are increased, not only risking a ruined holiday and higher car insurance premiums for years to come, but also putting lives in danger.
Drivers are advised to buy snow chains for their car before they set out on their holiday because not only do they make driving in the snow much safer, they are also a legal requirement in many European countries, punishable with on the spot fines. The Police are unlikely to let a driver continue his journey without snow chains, resulting in a long, cold walk to the nearest shop for many neglectful motorists.
