Son beats mum with slipper after cheap car insurance row

A mother who refused to destroy her cheap car insurance by adding her son to her policy was imprisoned and beaten with a slipper by her angry offspring.

59-year-old Heather Booth continually rejected her son's pleas to allow him to drive her Honda Integra sports car after he was convicted of speeding, making him an expensive option to insure.

Hearing his mother's advice that he should drive a "less capable car", 23-year-old Michael Booth went berserk, locking all the doors in their Perthshire house, refusing to allow her to leave and shouting and screaming. When she attempted to go upstairs to bed, the plant operator pushed her back into her chair and continued with his crazed rant.

Describing the events of December 9th 2005 to Stirling Sheriff Court, prosecutor Mike McMahon said, "At one stage, she made it the front door area where the accused blocked her exit, told her he'd locked the door and she wasn't getting out.

"He removed a slipper from one of her feet and struck her on the leg with it, then pulled her hair, causing her to cry."

Ms Booth's terrifying ordeal finally ended after four hours and she was allowed to retreat to her bedroom. Her angry son was arrested three days later. He will be sentenced on completion of reports.

Hearing about the case, a spokesperson for Duck2Water Car Insurance Services, the cheap car insurance experts, said, "This is certainly no way to treat your mother."
