Thousands of drivers concrete their gardens

A survey by motor insurance firm Direct Line has revealed that people are going to extreme measures to get a cheap car insurance deal.

Their results show that as many as one in five drivers have contemplated concreting their garden in order to park their car on it and keep it off the street.

Car insurance firms offer massive discount to anybody who can keep their vehicle off the street at night, and with money-conscious motorists beginning to cotton on to this in huge numbers, the concrete firms are starting to make a killing.

Direct Line's research also shows that one in six homeowners have sold up and moved specifically to gain a garage or a drive. A garage is the surest way of making your car secure and protecting it from thieves and, not surprisingly, motor insurance firms will recognise this and reward you with a cheap car insurance premium.

Rebecca Pearson, spokeswoman for Duck2Water Car Insurance Services, commented on the findings, saying, "It really is a shame that people are destroying their gardens just to save money on their car insurance, but the fact remains that a car in a garage or on a driveway is far more unlikely to be broken into than one left on the street."
