Toilet race woman may lose cheap car insurance

An elderly lady from Sussex who was caught speeding in a desperate rush for the toilet has launched a legal fight to avoid losing her right to cheap car insurance.

Sixty six-year-old Diana Stevens was flashed by a speed camera on the A27 as she rushed to get home to go to the loo, but has appealed to the courts to show leniency and not give her penalty points.

Mrs Stevens has driven for over 40 years and has a clean licence, meaning that that she is able to get a cheap car insurance premium every time she renews her policy. Any points that the courts decide to give her for the recent misdemeanour, however, will make her motor insurance cover more costly.

She has been told to pay a £60 fine but has refused and her case is due to appear before magistrates in May. She seems unrepentant and told the press she would do the same again in similar circumstances.

The grandmother from Seaford said, “Once you’ve thought about using the loo, I’m afraid you start to wriggle and you know you’ve got to hurry because it’s in your brain then, and you’ve just got to go.”
