Unruly kids threaten cheap car insurance premiums

Badly behaved children are the single biggest distraction for motorists, according to recent research by car insurance firm esure.com.

A survey by the motor insurance company revealed that over a third of all those questions said that youngsters playing up and misbehaving was the thing that distracted them most then they drove, causing them to take their full attention away from the road and making an accident a very real possibility.

Other top distractions appearing in the survey were mobile phones, tuning the radio, map reading, other cars being driven erratically and staring at car crashes. With so many diversions out there, the possibility of having an accident and losing the right to cheap car insurance is dangerously high, so it really does pay to take care.

Commenting on the findings, head of car insurance underwriting at esure.com, Mike Pickard, said, "Mothers spend over a third of their total mileage taxiing children and their friends to and from school or social activities so it is important that children are both buckled up and well occupied in the back.

"We advise parents to consider stocking up car pockets with books, in-car games and toys for their children to keep them entertained so that they can concentrate on keeping their eyes focused on the road ahead."
