Car insurance customers should have eyesight checked regularly

Motorists in Edinburgh are being urged to have their eyesight checked after a recent survey revealed that three out of four drivers failed eye and safety standards.

Some drivers believe bad eyesight could be a result of using a computer too much for such things as shopping for online car insurance and are being told to make sure they have regular eyesight tests to meet road safety guidelines.

A spot check held at the Royal Highland Show this year found that 71 per cent of people failed to read a number plate from the minimum requirement of 67ft.

The survey, carried out by Specsavers, also found that 80 percent of people hadn't realised that eye tests in Scotland were free.

Neil Greg, Head of Policy for the AA Scotland, said, "This is worry finding and although it is only a snap survey it does show there might be a problem."

Motorists suffering from poor eyesight could potentially be putting themselves and other motorists at risk from a possible car accident. If a driver had to claim on their cheap car insurance, they may find it difficult to get an affordable online car insurance quote in the future.
