Ford Focus, a car not to be sneezed at
With the number of people with allergies increasing by 5% each year and one in four British people having suffered from an allergy at some point in their lives, an allergy friendly car is a must for many drivers.
Ford has created the new Focus with this in mind, and it has been classified as a low allergy risk vehicle by the British Allergy Foundation and German organization TUV. Ford are the only manufacturer to be given this seal of approval for any of their vehicles, with the Focus C-MAX from 2003 and the new Focus being the cars which have achieved this status.
Some of the steps Ford have taken to combat allergies in the vehicle include dermatologically tested seat covers, seat belts and floor coverings, and over 100 materials were tested for harmful matter and other substances likely to cause an allergy. There is a pollen filter to help those who suffer from hay fever, and Ford ensured that no materials which many people have allergies to, such as latex, were used for the fittings.
Dr Wolfgang Schneider of Ford Europe says on this matter: “Ford believes that asthma and other allergies are a global health problem that should be countered more aggressively. That's why we regard it as our responsibility to develop and offer our customers products that address the concerns about allergies.”
The Ford Focus has been the best selling car since 2000, and its continuing popularity, especially with families, is thought to be down to a number of reasons, including its thoughtful design, low car insurance group and wide range of models.
