• If you are involved in car accident in which any person or animal has been hurt or any vehicle or property has been damaged, then you must stop.

• Ensure you obtain the names, addresses and telephone numbers of any drivers, passengers or pedestrians involved in the accident together with details of witnesses. You should also ask the drivers of other cars involved for the name of their car insurance company and policy number.

• If possible, take some photographs of the accident scene.

• Sketch a diagram of the accident scene. The diagram should show the position of the vehicles involved both before and after the accident and note the speeds, distances, road layout, road signs and any obstructions to your and other road users' views. Make a note on the diagram of where the witnesses were standing.

• By law you must show your Certificate of Motor Insurance to the police or anyone else involved in the accident, if anyone was injured or property damaged.

• Never admit liability for an accident or offer to make a payment for any damage caused. Please tell us if any other person admits blame for the car accident.
