5 ideas for getting rid of embarrassing CDs

Everyone has some embarrassing CDs in their music collection. Perhaps they were bought in a moment of student drunkenness or just when you were very, very young and had not yet developed your (now fantastic) taste in music. However, these CDs aren't the kind that you can play on the odd occasion as a joke; no, these are too humiliating to even take to the local CD trader shop to sell back for a few quid.

It is best to do something with them, believe me (and I speak from experience here). If you hide them away somewhere, your boyfriend/girlfriend will eventually come across them, and you will never, ever live it down. There are two things you can do with these CDs: get them out of your possession and make sure they never return, or make them into a feature for all to see.

 

1. Recycle – Send them through the post to Polymer Recycling (http://www.polymerrecycling.co.uk) and they will get stripped and turned into insulating materials and polycarbonate for use in everything from burglar alarms to street lamps.

2. Make a lamp - Ok, so maybe arts and crafts aren't really your thing, but you have to admit, Jim's lamp on http://photocreations.ca looks pretty cool.

3. Put on fenceposts as reflectors - If you have trouble with cars crashing into your gate or fence, a firmly secured CD (attached by the embarrassing side, of course) will reflect headlights and hopefully avert costly crunches. Hey, if it doesn't work, hopefully a car will crush it.

 

 

4. Make into a CD wall - Stick a bunch of your terrible CDs in a pretty pattern to a wall which the sun shines on and enjoy the pretty reflections. Just make sure you affix them well, or curious visitors may uncover your secret. Also doubles as a mirror when the sun isn't out.
