BMW has been consistently making high-performance, luxury cars year upon year for longer than most of us can remember. Car of the Year 2006
BMW's 3-Series found its way to the top spot of What Car's? Car of the Year award in 2006, marking the first time any BMW has been granted this prestigious accolade. It also won its category, being named Best Compact Executive. The What Car? editorial team praised the BMW's refinement and outstanding drive, as well as its fuel efficiency and level of emissions.

BMW obviously managed to impress the judges, with a spokesperson for the magazine commenting: "The BMW 3 Series emerged as a clear winner. We'd expected BMW's Compact Exec contender to be good, but we didn't expect it to be this good. No other car is as great in so many ways as the 3 Series."

Design Team of the Year 2007
It was again the BMW 3 Series that played a part in earning BMW the honours at the red dot "Design Team of the Year" awards in 2007. BMW cars and motorcycles, including the BMW 650 Xcountry and the BMW F800s, beat hundreds of other entries from 43 different countries to take home the highly-acclaimed first prize.

As well as the overall title, the BMW Group also received seven other awards for exceptional product design. BMW put this down to letting its designers have plenty of freedom in the way in which they styled the cars; an approach which has clearly paid off for the BMW Group and BMW customers alike.

Engine of the Year 2007
There was further cause for BMW to celebrate in 2007 after its 3-litre twin turbo engine was named as both International Engine of the Year and Best New Engine of 2007. BMW had an outstanding night at the awards ceremony, also topping five other International Engine of the Year categories, including Best Performance Engine and 4-litre + engine size.

A spokesperson for BMW said: "This is a tremendous achievement and important recognition of the lengths our engineers have gone to in order to ensure the success of our turbocharged petrol engines. We are proud to once again be honoured as the manufacturer of the International Engine of the Year."
