Bridgend men get cheapest motor insurance quotes in Wales

A motor insurance quote comparison site has revealed the vast differences in motor insurance quotes for the various regions of Wales.

The study, carried out by moneysupermarket.com, showed that getting a motor insurance quote can cost ten times more for people living in some areas than in others.

For example, having an LL22 postcode which refers to the Abergele area will mean male drivers have an average car insurance rate of a whopping £2,272.

Down in the CF2 area of Bridgend, however, men can expect to get cheap motor insurance quotes, which average a very reasonable £204.

The most expensive place in Wales for women's car insurance premiums is the Swansea SA2 postcode area, where around £1,700 is the norm. Those ladies who are lucky enough to live in Rhyl are able to enjoy an average motor insurance quote of £249, making it the cheapest woman's car insurance in Wales.

Matthew Sanger, reporter for What Car magazine, is critical of the way motor insurance quotes are calculated.

He said: "People are constantly asking us how car insurance quotes are worked out and it's really a totally grey area.

"It's something of a postcode lottery but always a difficult thing to work out because it's such a mysterious black art - the difference between car insurance quotes and how they're calculated.

"They [motor insurance companies] say it's all about statistical data based on where you live, what you do, how old you are and so on, and that it's all generated by computer algorithms.

"All we can really say is that you should never trust a single quote. You should always call at least three or four different firms."
