Kia Motor Corporation started off in 1944 as a maker of bicycle parts and steel tubing in South Korea. During the late 50s they started producing trucks, which was a business that sustained them until the mid 70s. In 1973 Kia's first gasoline engine was manufactured and by the following year was being used in the company's first car - the Brisa. A whole host of Kia cars were launched and produced through the 80s and 90s, such as the Concord, the Capital, the Rocsta, the Potentia and the Sephia. It was in 1975 that Kia first started exporting cars, but it was not until the mid-90s that the company was able to celebrate the millionth export. The 90s heralded a push into the exports market, with dealerships set up in the US and UK, as well as other countries around the world. |
The Kia Sedona was launched in the UK in 1999 and has proved to be a resounding success. This MPV brought Kia into the UK market and sales have steadily grown through the beginning of the 21st century - so much so that in 2005 Kia was able to celebrate its 5 millionth export.
