Amex study finds drivers missing out on cheap car insurance

A cheap car insurance company is claiming that motorists could be losing out on more than £100 a year by not searching for low cost motor insurance quotes to go with their new, more economical cars.

According to research by American Express, one in five drivers are being forced to change their driving behaviour as a result of the increasing cost of petrol.

The study showed that some motorists are choosing to drive fewer miles each year, whilst others are buying more fuel efficient motors in response to this issue.

American Express also revealed that around 60% of drivers fail to search around for cheap car insurance quotes when their current policy expires - something which could be saving the average driver around £109.

A spokesperson for the UK motor insurer said: "The cost of motoring seems to rise year-on-year-, and while there is little motorists can do to cut the cost of fuel or road tax, insurance is one area where real savings can be made."
