Arrests over cheap car insurance fraud

Four people from Hertfordshire have been arrested as part of a crackdown on fraud targeting cheap car insurance companies.

The arrests come as the second wave of action after a 14-month investigation by the Hertfordshire Constabulary Serious and Organised Crime Group.

The group is looking at "cash for crash" schemes in which accidents are staged in order to claim compensation from cheap car insurance companies.

A DCI involved in the investigation said: "This is the latest phase of a complex investigation by Hertfordshire Constabulary into staged accidents and fraudulent motor insurance claims.

"We have continued to work closely with our partners in the insurance industry as well as the Crown Prosecution Service."

A spokesperson for the Insurance Fraud Bureau added: "The success of this operation sends a very clear message to those criminals involved in this type of crime - the insurance industry is no longer an easy touch, we know who you are and we will continue to work closely with our colleagues in the police to bring you to justice."
