Drivers do not know Highway Code, shows cheap car insurance company

Motorists are unaware of the most recent changes to the Highway Code, according to new research by a cheap car insurance company.

Churchill Car Insurance discovered that 84% of UK drivers did not know that playing loud music in the car now goes against the Highway Code because it is considered to be distracting activity.

Further, a massive 65% admitted to eating or drinking behind the wheel; something which could cause distraction and result in a costly motor insurance claim.

A spokesperson for the cheap car insurance provider said: "Drivers should not live by the Highway Code alone, but also use their common sense when driving.

"Anything that distracts motorists from looking at the road or prevents them from driving safely should be avoided at all costs so that accidents can be prevented."
