Cheap car insurance site outlines lack of knowledge
Cheap car insurance comparison website peopleschampion.com has revealed that less than half of UK motorists know what they should do in the event of a road accident.
Just 12% of the drivers interviewed by the company could name seven or eight of the eight points which are laid out in the Highway Code. Even more worryingly, only 20% of motorists had even heard of this eight point guide.
However, as the points are based in common sense, 60% of drivers could identify half of the things which should be done after a car crash, such as using hazard warning lights to warn other road users and moving uninjured people away from the vehicles.
The chairman of the cheap car insurance site said: "When they tried the survey on me, I only managed five out of eight. Of course, it is all about common sense when driving - but sometimes we need [to be] prompted when something serious happens.
"Perhaps the insurers should remind everyone what they must do in case of a serious accident. I suggest that they print it on all motor insurance policies. It's a practical thing and it could help save lives."
