Cheap car insurance firm reveals link between vehicle preference and UK counties

An online motor insurance company has carried out a large scale study of the locations where certain makes of cars are most and least popular.

Swiftcover.com, which specialises in quick and cheap car insurance quotes over the web, has found surprisingly clear trends in vehicle preference around the UK.

For example, Essex proved to have 61% more Fords than the national average and was home to a surprisingly large number of Jaguars, whilst drivers in Scotland and Northumberland were apparently more tempted by Skoda models.

The cheap car insurance company also found that motorists in the West Midlands had a much higher chance of owning a Rover than drivers from elsewhere in the UK.

Perhaps the most positive finding, however, was that Landrovers proved to be 40% less popular to own in cities such as London, Edinburgh and Cardiff compared to more rural areas.

A spokesperson from Swiftcover.com commented: "The low popularity of Landrovers in these cities could be indicative of a turn against 4x4s in urban areas following the news of a 15% decline in 4x4 car sales at the end of 2006 and an increasing awareness amongst motorists of environmental issues."
