Cheap car insurance company announces contaminated fuel cover

Saga has announced that its cheap car insurance customers whose cars have been damaged by contaminated fuel will be able to claim for the damage.

It is estimated that up to one million UK motorists may have become victims of the batch of faulty fuel that was distributed to Tesco, Morrisons and Vopak garages, with many of these people having to shell out for repairs.

What has made the situation worse is that the cars worst affected by the fuel tended to be new, expensive cars with advanced fuel systems. Oxygen sensors and other parts in these systems often cost a lot to repair and some drivers have been left with bills for more than a thousand pounds.

Whilst it is not known whether other motor insurance companies will be paying out for claims on their customers' policies, Saga has confirmed that it will be doing so for drivers with comprehensive cover.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the cheap car insurance company said: "Thousands of drivers are likely to have suffered this week due to contaminated petrol causing damage to their vehicles, but we would like to reassure our policyholders that we will honour claims."
