The cheapest car insurance policy for young drivers is benefitted with new technology.
Finding the cheapest car insurance for a young driver is a difficult task because inexperienced motorists are considered a much higher risk on the roads.
The Driving Standards Agency in the UK says that an 18-year-old driver is three times more likely to be involved in a car accident than a 48-year-old.
However, there now may be some hope for responsible young drivers who feel that they are safe on the roads yet still have to pay a high amount because of their less careful peers.
There has recently been an increase in the number of insurance companies launching policies which benefit drivers between the ages of 17-25, and who have proved that they are able to drive in a safe and responsible manner.
With these policies the insurer is able to monitor the driver's road behaviour with the installation of a telematics device in the car. Through the use of satellites the insurer is able to track information on braking and accelerating, cornering and even whether journeys are made during the night or the day.
Letting their insurer observe their driving habits in this way may reduce the annual premium the policyholder pays on renewal.
New motorists should always undertake research into telematics car insurance cover as some companies will penalise the driver for driving at night, for example.
This technology allows the motorist to see, usually via an online portal, which driving skills they are excelling in and where they need to make improvements. So, hopefully, they can work their way to proving how safely they can drive and receive the cheapest car insurance possible.
